Questions & Answers

Should I buy a nuc or just a queen?

Buy a nuc if you're starting a new hive and need bees as well as a queen. Buy a queen on its own if you already have a colony that needs requeening.

Does a nuc of bees come with a queen?

Yes. Every nuc includes a laying F1 Buckfast queen along with her workers and frames of brood.

Can I order bees and a spare queen together?

Yes. You can add a nuc and a queen to the same basket. Nucs and queens may be despatched on different dates, depending on the options you choose.

What do bees and a queen cost?

Mated queens are £32 each. Nucs are reserved with a £60 deposit, and the full price for an over-wintered nuc is £290 plus £9.50 delivery.

Which nuc suits my hive?

Choose the 6 frame National nuc for a National hive, or the 5 frame Langstroth nuc for a Langstroth hive.

Can I use a spare queen to make a split?

Yes. Many beekeepers buy an extra mated queen to head a split or a new colony made from a strong hive, which saves waiting for the bees to raise their own.
