Questions & Answers

How are these queens mated?

They are open-mated in many mating apiaries in and around the Italian countryside. The apiaries are stocked with colonies to help produce the best drone bees for mating.

What is special about Buckfast queens?

Buckfast bees are the industry standard bee-breed. They were first bred by Brother Adam in the 1900s.

What is special about Carniolan bees?

Carniolan bees are a gentle, hardy, and highly efficient honeybee subspecies, ideal for beekeepers in cooler climates. They excel at overwintering, foraging, and disease resistance, making them a popular choice for sustainable beekeeping. With rapid spring colony growth they thrive in temperate regions. High reproductive rates mean they require more swarm management compared with Buckfast. Their docile nature and low tendency to rob other hives make them perfect for beginners and urban beekeepers.

How do I order these queens?

Our queen honey bees are for sale between April and September. Order from our online shop and we'll deliver them on the date marked on the site. Each queen comes with 5-6 attendant workers. Added to help the queen feed and warm.

Where do our queen honey bees originate from?

We import them from our trusted beefarm in Italy. We follow import laws, set out by the National Bee Unit. They visually check each shipment for parasites and diseases to ensure you have the best queens.
