Questions & Answers
When should I feed fondant?
Fondant is a winter feed. Use it if your bees are short of stores and it's too cold for them to take syrup. Heft your hive to check how much they've got left.
Where do I put the fondant?
Place it over the feed hole in your crown board, with a cut in the wrapping facing down so the bees can get to it. If your colony is small, turn the crown board so the hole sits over the cluster. In very cold weather, put it straight on the top bars with an eke or upturned feeder for space.
How do I stop it drying out?
Keep it wrapped. Cut the block into chunks, wrap each one in cling film or a freezer bag, and only cut a hole where the bees need to feed.
Should I use fondant or syrup in autumn?
To build up winter stores in early autumn, syrup is usually the better choice, while it's still warm enough for the bees to store it. Fondant is best once the weather turns cold.
Can I buy 3 blocks?
Yes. Add 1 block and 2 blocks to your basket.
